Ava was a university project I worked on over the course of a semester. The project brief was to develop a Game Design Document using one of a selection of short stories as inspiration for the game idea. I chose to take James and the Giant Peach as my source of inspiration, and looked into capturing the sense of adventure and escapism found in the book.
Set in the 80’s, Ava is a roguelike exploration game centred around a young girl and her overactive imagination. To escape her real-world problems she spends a lot of her time in an imaginary world of her creation, through which she interacts with various characters who all need her help in some way.
